Owner

Certified Personal Trainer

"Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."

I didn't know it way back in 1987 when I trained my first clients at 18 years old, but the above famous quote couldn't be more accurate describing my lifelong chosen profession as a personal trainer.

My interest in fitness began as a skinny 14 year old. I went through some minor bullying and decided to do something about it. I bought books (no internet back then!) on bodybuilding and nutrition, my parents bought me a weight set and bench for my birthday, and I worked out religiously in my bedroom for 18 months.

As my body became more muscular, others noticed. The bullying stopped. But I didn't stop working out, and joined a gym at 15 years old. After school, I rode my bike 30 minutes to the gym, learned new techniques from experienced gym members, worked hard, and saw more results. I loved being able to change the way my body looked through hard work and proper nutrition.

After graduating high school, I managed a gym while taking classes in exercise science. One day at the gym, a woman and her friend asked me if I would show them some exercises and teach them proper form. I was more than happy to help them, and share my knowledge and experience.

The next day, they approached me and said how much they enjoyed my instruction, asked if I would consider training them regularly - and they would pay me! I couldn't believe someone was willing to pay me to do something I loved! Of course I said yes, and just like that I had my first personal training clients at 18 year old! This was before the personal training industry even existed.

As the owner of In Shape For Life, I'm just as driven, energetic, and passionate about helping people transform their bodies and achieve their fitness goals, as I was over 35 years ago. It's the reason I get out of bed each morning, full of motivation and drive. I absolutely love the challenge of taking on new clients and working closely with them to help them achieve their fitness goals. It's extremely gratifying to me when I help clients make huge changes in their lives by improving their health, bodies, and self-esteem.

My approach to fitness is based on tried and proven basics, which include challenging exercise and sound nutrition, that you can follow and adhere to for life. I don't promote fads, pills, or shortcuts that may provide quick results, but can be dangerous and unsustainable long-term. Nor do I pretend to have the latest, greatest, scientifically proven system that will get you faster and better results. I don't make overinflated claims or empty promises. My website doesn't contain endless pages of flashy content with little substance. Nor is it a platform to display photos of my physique or brag about my achievements for ego gratification.

In Shape For Life is not about me. It's about the hundreds of happy, satisfied clients I've been privileged to train over the last 35 plus years. It's about what I can do for you. My goal as your personal trainer is the same as your goal - to ensure you get the fitness results you want! Whether you want to burn fat, lose weight, build muscle, gain strength, improve your health, balance, flexibility, endurance, coordination, or sports performance - I'll help you achieve your specific goals!

I know what it feels like to start something new. It can be daunting and scary. If you feel nervous or intimidated about beginning or getting back into exercising, I'll help you feel comfortable and at ease. I'm a people person, with a very friendly and positive personality. Whether you're shy, outgoing, low energy, high energy - I adapt quickly to your personality and communication style. I work with people of all ages including adults, seniors, teens, and kids.
